There are dozens of ministries that happen in our church every single day. We would like to highlight one ministry each month. We will provide explanations, how to sign up, where to sign up, etc. so that those who are unfamiliar with the process will see that it’s so easy to volunteer here at our sweet little church. This month’s highlight is: Ushers.
Ushers are needed at both the 8:00 and 10:30 services, as well as for holiday services. Typically we use one usher for the 8:00 a.m. service, two ushers for the 10:30 a.m. service, and two ushers for the summer 9:00 a.m. service. The ushers should arrive about 10-15 minutes prior to the beginning of the service. They stand in the back and hand out the bulletins and greet folks coming in. The ushers walk behind the oblation bearers who are bringing up the sacraments to the altar. Once the oblation bearers turn to return to their pew, the ushers will take the alms basins and collect the offering. Once finished, they will walk the offering back up to the altar, and then help the acolyte close and lock the gates. When it is time to receive communion, the ushers let each row of pews know when it is time to stand up and get in line. The ushers then receive communion last, and then help unlock and reopen the gates at the altar, and return to the back of the church. Once the service is over, the ushers greet everyone leaving, collect all the bulletins that are left in the pews and close any windows that are open.
Ushers typically serve about two to three times per quarter, but that varies depending on how many volunteers we have. Pam generates the schedule each quarter, so please contact the office if you are interested is this ministry.
