10/16/25 God Multiplies What We Give

Takeaway: As we give generously with open hearts, God promises to pour out blessings that overflow beyond what we imagine.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” — Luke 6:38

Opening Prayer (Thursday)

Lord, I thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness. No matter what today brings, help me to have a heart of gratitude and trust in Your perfect plan. Speak to me through Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

In these words of Jesus, we encounter a principle that defies the logic of society: what we give will always be multiplied. In the kingdom of God, generosity is always a multiplication. When we give, whether of our time, our resources, or our love, we participate in the divine economy of grace where abundance flows. Jesus’ image of “a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over” paints a vivid picture of God’s extravagant generosity. In the ancient world, this was the language of marketplace abundance where baskets of grain are so full that they overflow. Christ’s promise reminds us that when we give freely, we make room for the overflowing generosity of God to fill us and bless others through us.

Stewardship invites us to trust that God’s math of generosity is different from ours. We often cling tightly to what we have, fearful that giving will leave us with less. Yet Jesus reveals the opposite is true. It is in releasing our gifts that we discover the abundance of God’s provision. The measure we use becomes the measure by which we experience the joy of God’s blessings. This is not a transaction but a transformation. God does not simply reward generosity; He reshapes the heart of the giver, aligning it with His own generous heart. When the church practices this kind of giving, the community becomes a living sign of a people whose generosity testifies that God’s love cannot be contained or exhausted.

During stewardship season, we are reminded that every offering we bring, no matter how small, becomes part of God’s great multiplication. A simple act of generosity can ripple outward to bless others in ways we may never see. When we support the mission of the church, when we give of our resources, our talents, and our time, we are planting seeds that God alone can grow. He takes what we offer and presses it down, shakes it together, and causes it to run over, transforming ordinary gifts into extraordinary grace. Our calling is not to calculate the return but to give with trust, knowing that in the economy of the kingdom, generosity always begets abundance. We find that God’s blessings overflow, filling our lives, our communities, and our world with the goodness of His immeasurable love.

Questions

How does Jesus’ image of “a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over” reshape your understanding of what it means to give?

Can you recall a time when an act of generosity multiplied in unexpected ways?

Application

Take time to reflect on the “measure” you use in giving. Ask God to enlarge your capacity for generosity so that your giving flows from gratitude, not obligation. Consider one tangible way to give beyond what feels comfortable. As you do, trust that God is at work multiplying what you offer.

Closing Prayer

Generous God, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. Teach me to give as You give, freely, joyfully, and without fear. Transform my heart so that my generosity reflects Your own. Take what I offer, O Lord, and multiply it beyond my imagination to bless others and build Your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
