Takeaway: Seeing divine purpose in ordinary moments.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” – 1 Samuel 16:7

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for this new day and for the opportunity to draw near to You. Open my heart and mind as I reflect on Your Word. Help me to recognize the moments You place before me and to act with wisdom, grace, and courage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

When Samuel arrived in Bethlehem to anoint Israel’s next king, he expected someone impressive—someone strong, tall, and kingly in appearance. But God had different plans. He rejected Jesse’s eldest sons, choosing instead the youngest, David, a shepherd boy tending his flock. To human eyes, David seemed insignificant, but to God, he was a man after His own heart.

God often does His greatest work in the most unexpected places. A shepherd’s field became the training ground for a king. A manger in Bethlehem cradled the Savior of the world. A rugged cross became the place of ultimate redemption. Again and again, Scripture reminds us that God’s ways are not our ways—He looks beyond what the world values and sees the potential within.

We may overlook God’s work in our own lives because it doesn’t seem grand or extraordinary. But divine purpose is often found in the ordinary. The small act of kindness, the quiet season of waiting, the mundane duties of everyday life—these moments are where God is shaping us.

Application

• How might He be shaping you in those quiet, unnoticed moments?

• Whether you’re doing household chores, working a job, or simply spending time with others, recognize that God can use these moments for His purpose.

• Cultivate a heart that seeks to see God at work in all things.

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to see beyond outward appearances and recognize Your work in unexpected places. Give me faith to trust that You are shaping me, even in the ordinary moments. Use my life for Your glory, no matter where I am. Amen.
