Takeaway: How God uses everyday individuals for His glory.
“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” — 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, as I come before You today, quiet my heart and open my mind to Your truth. Speak to me through Your Word, and help me to trust in Your wisdom and purpose. May this time of devotion bring glory to Your name and transform me to reflect Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
The world often values power, intelligence, and prestige, yet God’s ways are higher than human wisdom. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he reminded them that God doesn’t call people based on their credentials. Instead, He chooses the humble, the weak, and the overlooked to accomplish His divine purposes.
Consider the people God used throughout Scripture: Moses, a shepherd with a speech impediment, became the deliverer of Israel. David, a young shepherd boy, was anointed as king. Mary, an ordinary girl from Nazareth, was chosen to bear the Savior. The disciples were fishermen and tax collectors—yet they were called to turn the world upside down with the gospel.
Why does God work this way? So that His power and glory are made evident. When He works through ordinary people, it becomes clear that success is not due to human ability but to His divine strength. God’s purpose is not about exalting the individual but revealing His greatness through them.
Application
• Recognize Your Calling – You don’t have to be extraordinary by the world’s standards to be used by God.
• Lean on Him in prayer, seeking His guidance and strength for what He has called you to do.
• Be Willing to Serve – Sometimes, God’s purpose unfolds in small acts of faithfulness.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing the weak, the ordinary, and the overlooked to accomplish Your extraordinary purposes. Help me to trust in Your calling, to rely on Your strength, and to serve You with humility. Use my life to bring glory to Your name. Amen.
