Takeaway: Love should be active, not just spoken.

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18

Opening Prayer

Gracious God, I come before You with a heart open to Your Word. Speak to me through this time of devotion and fill me with Your wisdom, peace, and strength. Help me to trust You more deeply and live out my faith with boldness. May Your presence guide me and transform me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

It’s easy to say, “I love you.” But true love is more than words—it’s action. John reminds us that love should be lived out in the way we treat others, not just in what we say. Love that pleases God is tangible, sacrificial, and rooted in truth.

Jesus exemplified this kind of love. He didn’t just tell people He loved them—He healed the sick, fed the hungry, welcomed the outcast, and ultimately gave His life for us. His love was costly, intentional, and transformative. As His followers, we are called to do the same.

How can we love in action today? Maybe it’s offering a listening ear to someone who is struggling, helping a neighbor in need, or forgiving someone who has wronged us. Love that is real requires effort, but it also has the power to change lives—both ours and those we love.

Question

Are there areas in your life where your love is more words than actions?

Application

• Look for Opportunities to Serve. Pay attention to the needs of those around you.

• Practice Active Listening. Set aside distractions and truly listen when someone shares their burdens.

• Give Without Expecting in Return. Offer kindness, encouragement, or assistance without looking for recognition or repayment.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to love not just with words, but with actions and truth. Show me ways to serve, encourage, and give selflessly, just as Jesus did. May my love reflect Yours and bring glory to Your name. Amen.
