5/19/25 A Life Fully Surrendered

Takeaway: Living each day in total dependence on Him.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20

Opening Prayer (Monday)

Heavenly Father, as a new week begins, I seek Your presence. Fill me with Your Spirit, renew my mind, and guide my steps. May I walk in faith and purpose today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

To live a life fully surrendered is to embrace the reality that our lives are no longer our own. In Galatians 2:20, the apostle Paul expresses the radical truth of Christian identity: that through faith in Christ, our old self has died, and now it is Christ who lives in us. This is not just a poetic expression; it is the foundation of a life lived in total dependence on God. It means that every thought, decision, and desire is yielded to Him. Not out of obligation, but in response to the overwhelming love and grace He has shown us. We live not for ourselves, but for the One who gave Himself for us.

Surrender is not a one-time act, but a daily posture. Each morning presents a fresh opportunity to lay down our plans, ambitions, and anxieties before God and say, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” A fully surrendered life means trusting that His will is better than our own, even when it costs us comfort or understanding. It means allowing Christ’s Spirit to guide our steps, shape our character, and direct our relationships. This kind of dependence may feel like weakness in the world’s eyes, but in the Kingdom of God, it is the source of true strength. For in our surrender, we are no longer striving to make life work on our own terms, rather we are resting in the sufficiency of Christ.

Living in total dependence on God transforms our perspective. We stop measuring our worth by achievements, possessions, or approval. We begin to view success through the lens of faithfulness. We find freedom in letting go. And we gain joy in simply abiding in the One who is faithful, loving, and true. A life fully surrendered is not a lesser life, it is the abundant life Jesus promised. It is a life marked by peace in uncertainty, and purpose in every step, because it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us.

Question

What area of your life are you still trying to control instead of surrendering to God?

Application

Today, begin by praying a simple prayer of surrender: “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done. Live through me today.” As the day unfolds, pay attention to moments where you’re tempted to grasp for control. Pause and re-center yourself in the truth that Christ lives in you.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, You gave Yourself fully for me. Help me to give myself fully to You. Teach me what it means to live not by my own strength, but in total dependence on Your Spirit. I lay down my plans, my fears, and my striving, and I ask You to live through me. Shape my desires to match Yours, and help me trust that in surrender, there is true freedom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
