Takeaway: Courageous faith stands still in the storm, trusting that God’s strength will make a way where there seems to be none.
“And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.’” — Exodus 14:13-14
Opening Prayer
Lord, calm my restless spirit and still my wandering heart. Teach me what it means to stand firm in faith, and to trust that Your strength is greater than my fear. Help me learn to rest in You. Amen.
Reflection
There are moments in life when fear feels like a flood and so overwhelming. It’s in times like these the way forward appears blocked. Israel knew this feeling well. Freshly freed from Egypt, they found themselves trapped between Pharaoh’s advancing army and the Red Sea’s impassable waters. Panic rose quickly. In that terrifying moment, Moses spoke words that still echo with comfort: “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today…”
Those words speak to the heart of courageous faith. Fear urges us to act hastily, to run or to retreat. Faith calls us to stand firm and trust, even when everything in us wants to react. God was not asking Israel to do nothing; He was inviting them to do the hardest thing of all: to wait on Him. It was a moment of holy stillness, a test of whether they truly believed that the God who get them through even this situation. When fear screamed that the end was near, God’s voice whispered, “fear not!”
Resting in God’s strength is a surrender of control that allows God’s power to be revealed. In our anxious striving, we often assume that victory depends on our effort. But Exodus 14 reminds us that faith is not about what we can manage, but about who we believe God to be. When we rest in His strength, we acknowledge that He alone parts the seas, defeats our enemies, and accomplishes the impossible. Israel’s stillness was not weakness it was worship. It was faith in motion through stillness.
When God’s people stood at the water’s edge, they could not yet see a way forward, but God was already making a way for them. The same is true for us. When fear presses in and circumstances seem impossible, God calls us to stand firm. We are called to remain strong, because God is. His strength does not waver or diminish with our doubts. Even when we cannot see the outcome, His presence surrounds us, and His power goes before us. Courageous faith is learning to rest, not in what we can do, but in who God is.
Questions

How have you seen God work when you stopped trying to control the outcome?
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me to rest in Your strength when fear surrounds me. Help me to stand still when my heart wants to run, and to trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. Give me courage to wait in faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
