11/07/25 The God Who Sees Me

Takeaway: Courageous faith begins with the confidence that God’s loving awareness is our deepest comfort and strength.

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” — Genesis 16:13

Opening Prayer

Gracious God, You are the One who sees and knows me completely. In the hidden places of fear, uncertainty, and pain, remind me that Your gaze is not one of judgment but of love. Open my heart to trust that You are near. Amen.

Reflection

When Hagar fled into the wilderness, she carried the weight of rejection and despair. A servant cast aside, she found herself in a barren place, far from comfort or belonging. Yet it was in that very wilderness that she encountered El Roi: “the God who sees me.” In Genesis 16:13, Hagar declares a profound confession of faith from a woman who had no reason to believe she mattered. But in that desolate place, God saw her, called her by name, and gave her hope for the journey ahead.

Courageous faith is not usually acknowledged in comfort but when we find ourselves in the wilderness. It’s usually there we discover that God’s awareness is not abstract, but deeply personal. When we feel invisible, and when others overlook our pain, God’s compassion finds us. To be seen by God is to be known in our entirety (our fears, failures, and longings) and still be loved. This awareness brings not only comfort but courage. For if the God who governs the stars also sees the tears on our cheeks, then we can face each day with the assurance that we are not invisible in our struggle.

In our moments of hiding, whether behind busyness, or shame, God’s vision finds us in those shadows. He meets us not to expose us, but to remind us that how He sees us matters most. and, in Hos gaze we are redeemed. God’s awareness becomes the soil where faith grows courageously and where we dare to hope again, to stand again. Hagar’s encounter teaches us that courageous faith begins not with strength, but with surrender. Courageous faith is embracing a God who sees us, even when we feel unworthy.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for being the God who sees me. When I am weary, afraid, or lost, Your love finds me. Help me to live with the quiet courage, knowing Your eyes are always upon me. Teach me to rest in Your presence, trusting that I am fully known and fully loved. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
