Takeaway: God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.

“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.” — Psalm 25:9

Opening Prayer (Thursday)

Lord, I thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness. No matter what today brings, help me to have a heart of gratitude and trust in Your perfect plan. Speak to me through Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Humility is one of the most misunderstood virtues in the Christian life. Many people confuse it with weakness or self-deprecation. But true humility, as scripture teaches, is not about diminishing our worth, but about rightly placing ourselves in the presence of God. It is the recognition that He is God and we are not, that His wisdom is higher than ours, and that His ways are always better than our own (Isaiah 55:8). Psalm 25:9 captures this truth beautifully. The blessing of humility is not simply a gentler posture of heart, but the very key that opens the door to God’s direction and instruction in our lives.

The proud heart struggles to hear God’s voice. Pride insists on its own way and own understanding. It often drowns out the gentle whisper of the Spirit. But the humble heart is teachable. It acknowledges that it doesn’t know everything and willingly submits to learn more. Think of a child reaching up to take a parent’s hand. Humility works the same way. When we humble ourselves, we extend our hand to God, trusting Him to lead us down the path of righteousness. We might not see the entire road ahead, but in humility we admit that He does, and that is enough.

Throughout scripture, God consistently resists the proud but draws near to the humble. Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). Meekness and humility open our lives to God’s richest blessings because they make space for His presence. To the humble, God reveals His wisdom. To the humble, He gives strength. To the humble, He gives peace. And to the humble, He shares the knowledge of His ways. A humble heart has God as their teacher.

The blessing of humility is not just in the guidance we receive, but also in the relationship it cultivates. God does not merely point us in the right direction like a signpost; He walks with us along the way. When we walk in humility, we learn more than what to do, we learn who God is. His heart, His faithfulness, His patience, and His mercy become clearer with every step. Therefore, humility is not a burden but a gift. It is not about thinking less of ourselves, but about thinking more of God. The true blessing of Psalm 25:9 is that the God of heaven and earth will take us by the hand, and lovingly teach us His way.

Questions

When you think about humility, do you tend to associate it more with weakness or with strength?

What does it look like in your daily walk to “extend your hand to God” like a child to a parent?

Application

Take some time to pause before making decisions, and ask God to lead you in choosing right and not lean on your own understanding. As you do, remember the promise of Psalm 25:9: God will take the humble by the hand and lovingly teach them His way.

Closing Prayer

Gracious Lord, teach me the beauty of humility. Help me to lay down my pride and open my heart to Your wisdom and direction. Guide me in what is right, and walk with me each step of the way. May I trust You fully, and learn from You daily. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
