9/09/25 Heaven on Earth

Takeaway: This life is just a glimpse of the ultimate reality. We are called to live now with the hope of a new heaven and a new earth in mind.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared.” — Revelation 21:1

Opening Prayer (Tuesday)

Lord, I come before You seeking wisdom and clarity. Help me to discern Your will and make choices that honor You. Open my heart to Your truth as I spend time with You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

John’s vision in Revelation reminds us that this world, with all its beauty and brokenness, is not the end of the story. Life as we know it is but a shadow, a foretaste of the greater reality God has promised. Every joy we experience here, every glimpse of love, peace, and beauty, points us toward a future where these blessings will be made complete and unending. And, the struggles we endure, the tears, the pain, the injustices, serve as reminders that we are not home yet. We live in the tension of the “already and not yet.” God’s kingdom has broken into the world through Christ, but its fullness is still to come.

This truth reshapes how we live today. Knowing that a new heaven and a new earth await us gives us hope that does not waver in the face of hardship. It anchors our hearts when the weight of sorrow or uncertainty presses upon us. But this hope is not passive; it calls us to live differently now. If heaven is a place where God dwells with His people, then we are called to practice His presence here, living with love, mercy, forgiveness, and faithfulness as signs of His kingdom. Each act of kindness, each prayer lifted in faith, each work of justice and reconciliation is a small echo of the world that is coming. In this way, heaven is not merely a future destination, but a present reality breaking into the world today.

The promise of a new heaven and a new earth assures us that our labor in the Lord is not in vain. The beauty we cultivate, the relationships we nurture, the lives we touch in Christ’s name all of it carries eternal significance. When we set our focus on God’s renewal, we no longer chase after the fleeting comforts of this life. We, instead, invest in what is lasting. We learn to live, carrying the hope of eternity within us while walking faithfully in the world. This life, though temporary, is a sacred opportunity to prepare our hearts for the fullness of God’s glory and to help others catch a glimpse of His coming kingdom.

Revelation 21:1 invites us to live with holy anticipation. It whispers that the best is yet to come, and it encourages us to endure, rejoice, and to love with eternity in mind. May our lives become windows through which others can see heaven on earth, a preview of the day when God will make all things new.

Questions

When you think of the promise of a new heaven and a new earth, what emotions or hopes rise within you?

In what ways do you already see glimpses of God’s kingdom breaking into your daily life?

Application

Look for one specific way to embody the hope of eternity in your everyday life. It could be offering forgiveness where bitterness has taken root, practicing generosity toward someone in need, or simply creating a space of peace and joy for those around you. Ask yourself: If I truly believed that this life is only a glimpse of God’s eternal reality, how would that change the way I live today? Let that question guide your choices, words, and actions.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for the promise of a new heaven and a new earth. Help me to live today with the hope of tomorrow, to endure today with faith, and to shine with Your love. May my life reflect the beauty of Your coming kingdom, that others might be drawn to You. Keep my eyes fixed on what is eternal, and my heart open to Your presence here today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
