Takeaway: Offering our days to God brings Him glory.
“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12
Opening Prayer (Monday)
Heavenly Father, as a new week begins, I seek Your presence. Fill me with Your Spirit, renew my mind, and guide my steps. May I walk in faith and purpose today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
Time is the most precious resource given to us, and yet it is also the most fleeting. Unlike money, possessions, or even strength, time cannot be replenished or stored away for later. Every day that passes is a gift used, never to be in our possession again. In Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses, the brevity of human life is held before us with such clarity: we are like grass that flourishes in the morning and fades by evening. With this awareness, Moses prays not for more days, but for wisdom to live the days we are given. There is clarity and wisdom that comes with recognizing that our lives are measured and that each moment belongs not to us, but to God.
To “number our days” is not merely about counting them; it is about acknowledging their value rightly. When we realize that our time on earth is limited, our priorities shift. Suddenly, distractions lose their grip, and what once felt urgent pales in comparison to what is eternal. Surrendering our time to God means offering the structure and rhythm of our days to Him. Morning by morning, we can begin with prayer, asking God to order our steps. In the middle of our busy tasks, we can pause to remember His presence. In the evening, we can give thanks and entrust our unfinished labors into His care. Each day becomes an act of worship when it is lived in His presence and for His glory.
Surrendering our time is about trust. Many of us wrestle with the illusion of control, believing we can bend time to our will, maximize it, or manage it perfectly. But when we surrender our time, we acknowledge that God is the one who maximizes time, and manages it perfectly. He appoints the times for work and for rest, for speaking and for silence, for action and for waiting. Offering our days to Him brings a freedom the world cannot give. And, when our time is in His hands, our souls find rest.
When we live this way, the ordinary hours of work, meals, conversations, and even waiting are transformed into offerings of worship. The prayer of Psalm 90:12 reminds us that numbering our days is not a cause for despair, but a pathway to wisdom. The wisdom gained is that life is short, God is eternal, and our greatest joy is found in offering Him every moment we are given. Our days are His gift, and when we place them back into His hands, they bear fruit that will last beyond time itself.
Questions
When you consider the brevity of life described in Psalm 90, how does it shift the way you view your daily priorities?
How might pausing throughout your day to remember God’s presence transform ordinary tasks into worship?
Application
Practice surrendering your time by setting aside intentional pauses throughout the day. Begin with a prayer in the morning, inviting God to order your steps. Choose at least one point during your work or daily tasks to stop, breathe, and acknowledge His presence. In the evening, reflect back on the day and offer thanks for His faithfulness, entrusting any unfinished tasks to Him.
Closing Prayer
Lord, You are the Giver of time and the Maker of every day. Teach me to number my days with wisdom and to live each moment in Your presence. Help me to surrender my plans, my schedule, and my priorities into Your hands. May my work, my rest, and even the smallest tasks be acts of worship to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
